Tried out Hulu for the first time yesterday. It's a joint venture between NBC and News Corp (parent company of Fox). So many shows, including some that I had already purchased on iTunes like Big Ideas and 30 Rock, as well as others not available yet like The Simpsons and several movies. But it's free. As with Joost (which I wrote about a few days ago) the catch is that you see some ads. As of now ads last about 15 seconds each and happen 3 or 4 times each half hour, so it's still better than TV which has ads for about six minutes out of each half hour.
So how long until this model is used for more educational offerings? Would you use a streaming video service that offered free, high-quality videos (or video clips) if it meant you and your students had to watch a short ad every once in a while? What ethical considerations are involved?
